Issue: Component includes a material classified as 8.1
The IMDS material classification 8.1 Electronics (e.g. pc boards, displays) is no longer allowed for materials. In order to parallel the material classification requirements for the EU’s SCIP database (More info here: https://echa.europa.eu/scip), the 8.1 classification has been eliminated. This means that any MDSs which contain materials classified as 8.1, must be revised and updated to use the appropriate material classifications.
IMDS Recommendation 001A states that classification 8.1 can still be used for legacy data. In this context, legacy data does not refer to data associated with Legacy Spare Parts. The IMDS Steering Committee members do not have a unanimous agreement on the definition of “legacy” within the context of IMDS Recommendation 001a.* Determining what constitutes legacy is considered a decision made between businesses. To adhere to best practices, it is recommended that MDSs for Post-SCIP** (new) component, semi-components, or materials should not include any pre-SCIP MDSs or modules in their tree structure.
Action Required:
Review your MDS to revise the classification of any material currently classified as 8.1
